Take a walk back into the Meiji era (1868-1912) and visit this 150 year old sake brewery in Matsumoto City. Join this guided tour and discover the brewery's history inside their original main building. Learn about their traditional sake brewing process and why it is a representation of Matsumoto City and the surrounding northern Japanese Alps. Finish off the tour with a thorough sake tasting session and a stroll through their retail sake shop. NOTE: After we receive your booking request we must confirm availability and start time with the brewery.
If we're picking you up at Matsumoto Station, please wait outside the Vie De France bakery located on the first floor. If you are facing the station, the bakery is on the left hand side of the escalators and stairs.
Nunoya Ryokan (Traditional Japanese Inn) is located on Nakamachi Street. It is across the street from the bar named "Side Car"
We will be lead by Ms. Ohara, a long time staff member at the brewery and a very entertaining lady. She will conduct the tour in Japanese and the guide will translate in English. First, we will visit the original main building of the brewery, built in 1885. You will learn about the brewery's history and Japanese culture. You will be able to see and touch items from over a century ago, and imagine what life was like at this brewery.
Next we will see and learn how the sake making process is conducted. Depending on the weather we may also visit a rice farm close by as the rice to make the sake is grown at this farm.
We will have a thorough sake tasting session at the end. You will be able to taste various types of sake and learn about how they are made and the different taste profiles. You will also have some time to check out their retail sake shop. The shop can handle tax free purchases for travelers.
