Sessions are timed to the light rather than to a convenient slot in the day, which is why mornings start early and evenings run late. A smartphone is fully supported, not merely tolerated: phone, compact and interchangeable-lens users all work on the same things, in a small group

What to expect
Over about four and a half hours, in a group of no more than eight, you'll cover:
- Exposure, aperture, shutter speed and ISO in plain English
- Moving off auto into manual with confidence
- Composition techniques that change your shots straight away
- Working with natural light in real conditions
- Reading a landscape and deciding what to leave out
- Honest gear guidance: what you need and what you don't
Your instructor, Dave Maguire, shoots commercially every week for brands across Queenstown. Everything taught comes from that work rather than from theory.
Sessions run in and around central Queenstown, using the lake and the mountains as the subject. The meeting point is confirmed at booking.
This is an outdoor activity and weather dependent. If conditions make the session unworkable, you'll be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
