The tour unfolds where two sides of Hakata collide: “Nakasu,” Kyushu's largest entertainment district, and “Kawabata,” a neighborhood that still holds onto old Hakata charm.
At the row of yatai in Nakasu, you'll pick one dish per person from options like oden, tempura, and yaki-ramen. Watching the cook prepare it right in front of you is half the fun.
Next, we'll visit a hidden local izakaya tucked away in the old downtown streets near Kushida Shrine. Loved by local regulars for years, it's the kind of place most visitors would never discover on their own. The specialty here is yakitori, with five different cuts of chicken carefully grilled one skewer at a time by an experienced chef. Each skewer is served at its peak—smoky, juicy, and full of flavor.
The tour also runs in a join-in format, so you may be paired with other travelers — meeting new people, locals and fellow travelers alike, is one of the best parts of a Hakata night out.
