Lyon wine and cheese pairing workshop with a sommelier

1 hour 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: English and 1 more

Guided by a Lyon sommelier, you don’t just taste: you learn actively. First the basics to analyze a wine correctly then the heart of the workshop, the food and wine pairings. You test both good and bad chords to understand for yourself, concretely, why some combinations sublimate and others destroy.

The workshop progresses in phases: goat versus cow, unripened cheese versus long ripening, then blue, where you are completely autonomous to reflect and slice alone. Along the way, you explore the French terroirs with grape varieties, soils and microclimates explained without jargon.

Standing, friendly, outdoors as soon as the weather allows, all in an authentic cellar of the Croix-Rousse. An immersion in gastronomic Lyon without setting foot outside.

What to expect

La Cave Tabareau is one of the most authentic wine cellars in Lyon, making it the ideal setting for this interactive workshop of food and wine pairings.

Without leaving the cellar, you pass through the gastronomy and the local terroir glass by glass, cheese by cheese. This is not a passive tasting: you actively learn to taste, identify and match wines with local artisan cheeses.

Your sommelier Guides you through the surrounding terroirs by explaining grape varieties, estates, soils and microclimates in an accessible and jargon-free way. First you learn to taste a wine in the right way, then you move on to the pairings: the good and the bad, to grasp concretely why some combinations work and others do not. The workshop progresses in phases, goat versus cow, little ripened cheese versus long ripening, then blue. On this last agreement, you are autonomous: it is up to you to reflect and draw your own conclusions.

The workshop stands for a friendly and dynamic atmosphere, outdoors when the weather allows.

A dive into Lyon and its gastronomy, without setting foot outside.
