Kawagoe Authentic Tea Ceremony

1 hour (approximately)
Offered in: English

Would you like to enjoy a bowl of matcha in a historic Japanese town just outside Tokyo?

In Kawagoe, you can experience authentic Chado in English while discovering a different side of Japan.

Unlike the busy atmosphere of central Tokyo, Kawagoe offers a slower and more peaceful atmosphere, with traditional streets, historic buildings, and a unique sense of old Japan.

This experience is not simply about learning how to drink matcha. I would like you to slow down, enjoy the season through the tea utensils and shikishi artwork, and experience a small moment of Japanese culture during your journey.

What to expect

Experience Chado in Kawagoe, a historic city famous for its traditional warehouse-style streets.

Kawagoe is an ideal destination for a day trip from Tokyo.
For each experience, I carefully select seasonal tea utensils from my own collection. I also create seasonal shikishi artwork by hand, with paintings and calligraphy inspired by the season. Through these small details, I hope to share the spirit of Chado and the Japanese appreciation of seasonal beauty.

My wish is to offer you a calm and mindful moment during your journey in Japan.

Please feel free to talk with me throughout the experience. This is a small-group introduction to Chado for up to 6 guests.

You do not need any previous experience. This is not a formal or intimidating tea ceremony lesson. Instead, I hope you will feel relaxed, curious, and welcome.

I look forward to welcoming you to a traditional Japanese room in Kawagoe. I hope you will feel as if you have stepped into the warm, peaceful home of a Japanese grandparent, and enjoy a mindful moment surrounded by tea, seasonal beauty, and Japanese culture.
