1Nara Park
A short trip from Kyoto, Nara Park is home to over a thousand freely roaming deer, considered sacred messengers in Shinto tradition and famous for bowing to visitors in exchange for special "shika senbei" deer crackers. The park spans a large area of forest and grassland and connects several major historic sites, including Todai-ji Temple (home to a giant bronze Buddha statue) and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, known for its hundreds of bronze and stone lanterns. It's a relaxed, scenic stop that pairs nature with some of Japan's oldest religious architecture.

2Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine
