An authentic experience guided by a European expat living in Rio. Ride a mototaxi to the top, walk through local alleys to witness real daily life, and enjoy two of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro away from the crowds.
Go to Praça do Vidigal. By Uber/taxi, set destination to "Praça do Vidigal". By bus, take any line along Av. Niemeyer to the Vidigal stop. Your guide, Francesco, will wait in the center of the square wearing his official local tour guide badge.
We get straight into the action, hopping on the back of the local mototaxi drivers' bikes that carry us up to the top of the favela. We explore the upper part of Vidigal, which has been revitalized with a football pitch and a small park. From there we walk down on foot through the alleyways where, between glimpses of the mountain, the rainforest and the beaches, the houses unfold one after another and you will see first-hand how daily life unfolds in the community. Some areas can be photographed; in others, photos and sunglasses are not allowed, but they will stay etched in your memory.
Sitting at a favela bar, we take in what has been voted one of the most beautiful views in the city, spanning the beaches of Leblon and Ipanema and Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar).
On the final stop we reach a bar with a panoramic terrace, from where you can also admire Christ the Redeemer in the distance. Anyone who wishes can have a drone video filmed (optional extra service).
