Discover the Colosseum with or without Gladiator Arena floor. The Colosseum (originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre) is the largest ancient amphitheater ever built and stands as the ultimate architectural symbol of imperial Rome. Commissioned by Emperor Vespasian around 72 AD and completed by his son Titus in 80 AD, this monumental elliptical arena could hold up to 80,000 spectators for gladiatorial combats, dramatic plays, and public spectacles. Today, it functions alongside the adjacent Roman Forum and Palatine Hill as one of the world's most prominent archaeological parks.
The Roman Forum is a rectangular forum (plaza) surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. Citizens of the ancient city referred to this space, originally a marketplace, as the Forum Magnum, or simply the Forum.
The Palatine Hill, which is centermost of the seven hills of Rome, is one of the most ancient parts of the city. It has been called the first nucleus of the Roman Empire. The site is now mainly a large open-air museum, whilst the Palatine Museum houses many finds from the excavations here and from other ancient Italian sites.
