Our journey begins with a drive along the famous Georgian Military Highway. Our first major stop is the stunning 17th-century Ananuri Fortress, beautifully situated overlooking the turquoise waters of the Zhinvali Reservoir. We will explore the ancient defensive walls, towers, and beautifully carved churches inside the complex, learning about the rich history of the local dukes while taking incredible panoramic photos.
As we drive higher into the Caucasus Mountains, passing through the ski resort of Gudauri, we will stop at the iconic Friendship Monument. Built on the edge of a cliff in the Jvari Pass, this colorful concrete structure offers spectacular, dizzying views of the "Devil's Valley" and the majestic mountain ranges below. It is one of the best viewpoints in the country for breathtaking photography. Optional Activity: If you are looking for an adrenaline rush, paragliding is available here. Please note that paragliding is optional and its cost is not included in the tour price; you will pay the paragliding operators directly on-site if you choose to fly.
Arriving in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), we will make our way up to the legendary Gergeti Trinity Church, perched dramatically at an altitude of 2,170 meters. Surrounded by epic mountain peaks and positioned right beneath the snow-capped Mt. Kazbek (5,054m), this 14th-century church is the ultimate symbol of Georgia. You will have plenty of time to soak in the spiritual atmosphere, enjoy the crisp mountain air, and capture the most famous view in the Caucasus.
We begin our second day by visiting the 6th-century Jvari Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site perched on a hilltop. This architectural masterpiece offers the most famous, breathtaking panoramic view in Georgia—the dramatic confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers right outside the ancient city of Mtskheta.
Next, we drive down into the cozy, cobblestone streets of Mtskheta to visit the magnificent Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. As the spiritual center of Georgia and another UNESCO site, this 11th-century cathedral holds immense historical importance and is known as the burial place of Christ's mantle. We will explore its grand interior, ancient frescoes, and fascinating royal tombs.
We will also stop at the nearby Samtavro Monastery complex, a peaceful and deeply sacred site. Here, we will visit the small 4th-century church built by King Mirian and Queen Nana (the first Christian rulers of Georgia), see their tombs, and learn about the local spiritual history.
