Your scenic drive first takes you through Lanín National Park into the Pampa de Trompul, part of a local indigenous Mapuche community’s territory. Pass by the Piedra de Trompul, or ‘Chief’s stone’ in the Mapuche language. According to legend, strong thunder in its vicinity means rain or snow is coming. In the distance, look out for Savannah Mountain and Cerro Colorado, an extinct volcano.
Experience the captivating beauty of Peninsula de Yuco and its beautiful beaches, where you'll discover the mesmerizing Andean-Patagonian forest. Witness the rich diversity of pellin, oak, and coihue trees, immersing yourself in the tranquil surroundings and natural splendor of this captivating destination.
On the way back along route 48, we'll pass by the meeting point of Lakes Lácar and Nonthué, offering a picturesque view to remember.
We arrive at the border with Chile, where there are some small constructions from the beginning of the century, whose buildings are used by institutions such as Customs, Gendarmeria, there is also a house-museum of an old settler family, whose main income was the exploitation of wood, until the creation of National Parks.
Then, we will cross the Hua Hum river to reach a resting place inside the national park and starting point for a nice and quiet walk to the Chachín waterfall, where we will have the possibility to walk inside this colourful vegetation formed by ferns, quivers, nalcas, and millenary trees. Thanks to this easygoing 30-minute hike up to Chachin Waterfall, admire from a balcony, the 65-foot (20-meter) cascade roaring down into a clear green pool of water.
We'll wrap up our tour around 7 pm as we dock at Lacar Pier, marking the end of our journey.
