    Day 1

    Welcome to the Amazon: Rainforest

    El Puente Cuyabeno

    Upon arrival at Cuyabeno Bridge, you will be greeted by your naturalist guide, who will provide a brief introduction to the reserve before continuing your journey.

    After the welcome briefing, enjoy a scenic canoe ride along the Cuyabeno River on your way to the jungle lodge, where you may begin spotting wildlife along the riverbanks. Upon arrival, a delicious lunch will be served. Afterward, your room will be assigned, and you’ll have time to relax and settle into your surroundings before the afternoon activities begin.

    In the afternoon, we will visit Laguna Grande, where you’ll have the opportunity to swim and enjoy a breathtaking Amazon sunset. On the way back to the lodge, we will head out on a night excursion in search of caimans and boas along the river. To end the day, dinner will be served at the lodge, followed by time to rest surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

    Explore the Amazon in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

    Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

    After breakfast, set out on a guided walk through the primary rainforest with a native bilingual guide. During the hike, you’ll discover medicinal plants and have the chance to observe birds, reptiles, and mammals in their natural habitat. After the activity, enjoy lunch at the lodge followed by free time to relax, unwind, or explore the surroundings at your own pace.

    Birdwatching and Departure

    Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve

    Early in the morning (around 5:30 AM), we will set out for a birdwatching experience, the best time of day to observe the Amazon’s vibrant birdlife. After returning to the lodge, enjoy breakfast, followed by free time to pack and prepare for departure.

    El Puente Cuyabeno

    Finally, we will begin our return journey to Cuyabeno Bridge. During the canoe ride along the Cuyabeno River, you’ll have one last opportunity to spot wildlife along the way. Upon arrival at Cuyabeno Bridge, where your journey began, we will say our goodbyes.

  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • To reach Cuyabeno Bridge, transportation departs from Quito the night before your tour. The most convenient option is a tourist shuttle with pick-up from two locations: Plaza Foch (Hotel Embassy, Wilson E8-22 & 6 de Diciembre) at 10:30 PM, or from the Historic Center (Secret Garden Hostel, José de Antepara & Los Ríos) at 11:00 PM. This service provides a direct overnight transfer to the meeting point and costs USD 37.00 per person one way, or USD 74.00 round trip. Alternatively, you can take a public bus with Putumayo Bus Company, the only company that travels directly to Cuyabeno Bridge. The bus departs from Quitumbe Bus Terminal in southern Quito at 9:00 PM, with a cost of USD 19.00 per person (one way). Please note that transportation is not included in the tour price and must be arranged in advance.
