Trade the traffic of Ho Chi Minh City for the slow, green waterways of the Mekong Delta on this full-day escape to My Tho and Ben Tre.
After hotel pickup, you'll drive south through rice fields and orchards to My Tho, where a motorised boat takes you out onto the wide brown Mekong. You'll pass floating houses, fish farms and the four islands named after mythical creatures — Unicorn, Dragon, Phoenix and Tortoise — before landing on Unicorn Island.
You'll watch coconut candy being pulled and cut by hand and taste it warm; sit in a garden over seasonal tropical fruit while a group of local musicians performs traditional southern folk songs; sip honey tea at a bee farm; and then climb into a wooden sampan, rowed by hand along a narrow canal beneath overhanging water-coconut palms.
Lunch is a local set menu at a riverside restaurant, typically featuring the delta's famous elephant-ear fish with rice paper and fresh herbs.
