Cross the Hissar Range through the 5 km Anzob Tunnel, with views of high snow-capped peaks along the way.
Drive down into the Zeravshan Valley near Ayni and stop for photos of the Zeravshan River and the peaks of the Fann Mountains.
Stop in the historic town of Panjakent for lunch at a local national restaurant (lunch at own expense) and a short break before heading into the mountains.
Lake 1 Mijgon ("eyelash"): turn into the Shing River valley, pass the traditional mountain village of Shing and reach the first of the Seven Lakes, a narrow lake surrounded by steep rocky cliffs. Short walk and photo stop.
Lake 2 Soya ("shadow"): a calm lake where the surrounding mountains cast deep shadows and reflect beautifully in the water. Photo stop.
Lake 3 Khushyor: a lake with rich, deep blue water and views of the surrounding peaks. Photo stop and short walk along the shore.
Lake 4 Nofin ("navel"): one of the most photogenic lakes, with clear turquoise water. Enjoy a short walk along the shore.
Lake 5 Khurdak ("small"): the smallest and quietest of the Seven Lakes, a peaceful spot surrounded by trees and rocks. Photo stop.
Lake 6 Marguzor: one of the largest of the Seven Lakes, with a wide mountain panorama. Check in at a guesthouse on the lake shore, enjoy a relaxing evening and sunset by the water, and spend the night here.
Early morning by Lake Marguzor: enjoy the quiet lake and mountain views at sunrise, then have breakfast at the guesthouse (included).
Lake 7 Hazorchashma ("thousand springs"): the most remote and untouched of the Seven Lakes, fed by mountain springs. If the road is passable, we drive to the end of Lake Marguzor and walk about 2 km (30-40 minutes each way); otherwise it is a 6-7 km hike each way (1.5-2 hours). Enjoy 60-80 minutes at the lake to rest, swim and take photos, then return the same way.
Drive back down the Shing valley to the main road and stop for lunch in the Panjakent area (lunch at own expense).
