    Embalse El Yeso

The highlight of the day: Embalse El Yeso, a stunning turquoise reservoir set high in the Andes, at around 2,500 meters above sea level. Surrounded by towering mountains, often topped with snow, it is one of the most impressive and photogenic landscapes near Santiago. Here you will have free time to walk along the shore, take in the views and capture unforgettable photos, with your guide helping you get the best shots. Enjoy an included picnic with panoramic mountain views, while your guide shares stories about the region, its geography and the importance of the reservoir, which is one of Santiago's main sources of drinking water. Please note that swimming is not permitted in the reservoir. Temperatures at this altitude are much cooler than in Santiago and can change quickly, so bring warm layers, sunscreen and sunglasses.

On the way up the mountain road, we pass through the Túnel Tinoco, a narrow tunnel carved into the rock and one of the most curious landmarks of Cajón del Maipo. Declared a National Historic Monument, it is a remnant of the old railway that once connected Puente Alto to the mountain village of El Volcán, a line that has long since been abandoned. As we drive through, your guide will share the history of this old train route and some of the local legends and mysterious stories that have made the tunnel famous in the region.
