In the heart of Kyoto, immerse yourself in the art of Japanese calligraphy and stone seal carving at Malligraphy. Under the guidance of experienced calligrapher with over 20 years of practice, you’ll learn to create beautiful characters and design your own unique stone seal. Whether it's your name, a favorite word, or a meaningful phrase, take home a personal keepsake that embodies the elegance of Japanese culture. This engaging workshop is perfect for beginners and offers a memorable way to connect with Japan's artistic heritage.
What's Included
Meeting and pickup
Go through the narrow alley to the left of Hotel Miro, and you’ll find us on the right. Look for the Malligraphy sign. Our studio is a small, one-story building. We are just a 1-minute walk from Chion-in’s Sanmon Gate.
What to expect
First, you will carve your own name or a meaningful word into a small stone seal, learning the basics of Japanese seal carving. You will then experience Japanese calligraphy and create your own artwork using traditional calligraphy tools and techniques.
Finally, you will stamp the handmade seal you created onto your calligraphy artwork. This special finishing touch brings your artwork together and makes it a truly personal piece to take home.
No previous experience is required. Our instructor will guide you step by step, so beginners and children are welcome.
The workshop takes place at our calligraphy studio, located right next to Chion-in Temple’s Shinmon Gate.
Enjoy a peaceful and relaxing moment in our quiet Japanese-style studio while experiencing the art of Japanese calligraphy.
