We begin at the peaceful Okazaki Shrine, a small local shrine known for its distinctive rabbit motifs and its long association with good fortune, family and safe childbirth. After a short introduction to the tour and the surrounding Okazaki district, we explore the shrine grounds together and take time for photos and some of the details visitors often miss.

2Heian Shrine
A short walk brings us to Heian Jingu, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the area. Its vast courtyard, vivid vermilion architecture and traditional design create a striking contrast to the quieter shrine where we started. We stop here for a concise introduction, photos and a look at the main grounds.

your route then passes the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, where historic Kyoto architecture meets the city’s modern cultural scene. We make a short stop to see the building and its surroundings and, where practical, briefly step inside the public areas before continuing the walk. This is an introduction to the museum rather than a full museum visit.

4Tatsumi Bridge
We leave the wider Okazaki area and continue on foot toward traditional Higashiyama, following quieter streets and the canal as the atmosphere gradually changes from modern cultural Kyoto to one of the city’s historic entertainment quarters. The tour ends with an introduction to Kyoto’s Geiko and Maiko culture, the history of the hanamachi districts and the role these traditional communities still play in the city today. Along the way, there is time for photos, local stories and a closer look at the architecture and narrow streets that give this part of Kyoto its distinctive character. This is a cultural walk through the district, not a guaranteed Geiko or Maiko encounter.
