1Ngorongoro Crater
Your day begins with an early pickup from your Arusha hotel and a scenic drive past the Great Rift Valley escarpment and Karatu's coffee farms to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. At the crater rim, stop at the viewpoint for sweeping views over the 600-metre-deep caldera, then descend to the floor for up to six hours of game driving in a 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, led by a professional driver-guide. The crater holds around 25,000 animals, including lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and hyenas, and is one of Tanzania's best places to spot the endangered black rhino. Flamingos often gather at Lake Magadi. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site with wildlife around you. In the afternoon, climb back up the crater wall and return to Arusha by evening. Park fees, lunch and bottled water are included, so you can simply relax and enjoy one of Africa's greatest wildlife spectacles.
