Kyoto Private Temple Massage for Women with Tea and Goshuin

2 hours 30 minutes (approximately)
Offered in: Japanese and 1 more

This is a private massage inside a working Kyoto temple, not a spa. The temples open their rooms to us only a few days each month, and each day holds just three sessions, one guest at a time, women only. You lie on tatami with the temple garden beside you, then sit with tea, Japanese sweets and the temple's hand-brushed goshuin to take home.

What's Included

Quiet time in the temple room after your treatment
A drink and Japanese sweets after your treatment
A change of clothes and everything you need on the day
Private full-body massage (shiatsu, or oil and bamboo)
Companions may wait in the room with tea, no extra charge
The temple's goshuin (temple seal) to take home
Transportation to the meeting point

Meeting and pickup

Meeting point

The meeting station depends on the date: Jingu-Marutamachi, Demachiyanagi or Keage Station. After booking, we email you the exact station, where to wait and directions. Your host meets you there 10 minutes before your start time and walks with you to the temple.

End point
This activity ends back at the meeting point.

What to expect

Held in one of several centuries-old working temples in Kyoto, each under private arrangement with us. We are granted access for only a few days each month, and each day holds just three sessions, so the room is yours alone.

Your host meets you at the station and walks with you to the temple. You change in the treatment room, then we ask about your body: any injuries, where you feel tension, and how strong you like the pressure.

Close your eyes and the temple comes to you: old wood, incense, the smell of tatami.

Choose your treatment:
- Signature Shiatsu: full-body shiatsu while you stay fully clothed, resting on a wide mattress, with the pressure matched to what you like. Finishes with deep stretching.
- SATAKE Kyoto Oil & Bamboo: our most popular treatment. A full-body oil massage with a blend made for us alone, then warmed bamboo sticks chosen for each area, deep stretching and hot towels.

Afterwards, a drink is served with Japanese sweets, and the temple's goshuin, a hand-brushed seal, is handed to you while you sit for about 30 unhurried minutes. Your host then sees you back to the gate.

To keep the temple peaceful, its name and exact location are shared after booking.
