Come hungry and curious — I’m Anikó, and I’ll take you on a delicious journey through Frankfurt’s food traditions.
Every tasting is rooted in Frankfurt or Hesse, from pretzels with Spundekäs and hearty Rindswurst to fresh Green Sauce and tangy Handkäs. Save room for Frankfurter Kranz cake and sweet Bethmännchen. Even the city’s signature apple wine sneaks into chocolate.
Together, we’ll explore the lively Kleinmarkthalle, discover the seven herbs behind Green Sauce and the stories behind what’s on our plates. In Sachsenhausen, we’ll settle into a traditional tavern for a guided apple wine tasting paired with local dishes. Compare the flavours, pick your favourite and meet the Bembel and ribbed glass of Frankfurt’s apple wine culture. And for the final sip? A Mispelchen — a Frankfurt tradition worth getting to know.
With max. 8 guests, there’s room to chat, ask questions and share discoveries. Coming solo? Pull up a chair — you’re welcome, and the tour runs even with just one guest.
Meet Anikó outside the Hessen Shop at the Kleinmarkthalle, by the shop window. Look for the “Frankfurt Food Tour” sign.
We start at the Kleinmarkthalle, exploring Frankfurt’s food scene through its market stalls and regional specialities. As we wander through the hall, you’ll get a taste of what people in Frankfurt and Hesse love to eat, with stops to try local favourites such as pretzels with Spundekäs, regional wine and Frankfurt beef sausage. Along the way, I’ll share the stories behind the food and show you how the market brings people together to shop, eat and catch up over a glass of wine.
At Bitter & Zart, we explore Frankfurt’s sweeter side. You’ll try an apple wine praline and a Bethmännchen, a traditional marzipan sweet with almonds. As we taste these local specialities, I’ll share how apple wine found its way into chocolate and what a Frankfurt family has to do with the Bethmännchen.
We stop at Frankfurt Cathedral for a closer look at one of the city’s landmarks. I’ll share a little of its story before we continue our walk through the old town.
At Lorsbacher Thal in Sachsenhausen, we settle in for an apple wine tasting paired with local dishes. You’ll explore different flavours of Frankfurt’s signature drink and taste regional specialities as I share the stories behind the food and the city’s apple wine culture.
On our way back, we make one final stop at the Eiserner Steg for a view of Frankfurt’s skyline across the Main River. The bridge is also covered in love locks left by couples—a colourful backdrop for a final photo to round off our evening together.
