In the morning, we explore the historical city center. We uncover the traditions behind Viana’s iconic gold filigree, costumes and folkloric dances. Along the way, we learn about the city’s rich architecture and discover its historical and maritime heritage.
After lunch (free time), we'll discover the upper part of the city. We hop aboard Viana's iconic funicular for a scenic ride up the Santa Luzia Mountain, with sweeping views over the city and coastline.
At the top, we’ll visit the magnificent *Santa Luzia Sanctuary*, stroll through the surrounding parkland and explore the archaeological remains of the *citânia*, an ancient fortified settlement (ticket included).
We end the day with a relaxing *coffeef** overlooking the most breathtaking panoramic view of Viana do Castelo.

Just a train or bus ride away from Porto, this charming city offers a captivating blend of history, culture and folklore. Our journey begins at 10h30 at Viana’s train or bus station, right on the doorstep of the historic centre. In the morning, we explore the traditions behind Viana’s iconic gold filigree, traditional costumes and folkloric dances, including a visit to the iconic *Costume Museum* (ticket included). Along the way, we admire the city’s rich architecture and discover its historical and maritime heritage, from traditional cod fishing expeditions to Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. After a morning full of fascinating stories, you’ll have *free time for lunch* before we travel back in time to explore the ancient roots of the region.

Viana do Castelo (Pass by)
In the afternoon, we travel back in time to explore the ancient roots of the region. Hop aboard Portugals longest *funicular* (ticket included) for a scenic ride up Santa Luzia Mountain, with sweeping views over the city and coastline. At the top, we’ll visit the magnificent neo-Byzantine *Santa Luzia Sanctuary*, stroll through the surrounding parkland and explore the archaeological remains of the *citânia*, an ancient fortified settlement (ticket included). Here, you’ll discover what life was like in northern Portugal before (and during) the Roman period. We’ll round off the day with a relaxing *coffee or farewell drink*, taking in breathtaking panoramic views of Viana do Castelo, the Lima River and the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll then take the funicular back down and return to the city centre, ending our tour at the train/bus station. Start time at Viana station : 10h30 End time at Viana station : 17h
