On this private experience, you’ll explore the Montserrat Monastery with your English-speaking guide, who will share the stories and legends that shape this sanctuary.
You’ll ascend the mountain on the scenic cogwheel train, taking in panoramic views of its iconic peaks. Montserrat is embraced by two of Catalonia’s historic wine regions: DO Pla de Bages to the north and DO Penedès to the south, both home to vineyards dating back over 2,000 years.
Depending on availability and preference, you’ll visit a family-owned organic winery in one of these regions, where you’ll learn how local climate and soil influence the character of the wines. Your visit concludes with a Catalan charcuterie and cheese brunch, featuring cured meats, artisan cheeses, and local specialties, paired with a tasting of four high-end organic wines, both sparkling and still.
Designed at a relaxed pace, this day offers a thoughtful blend of cultural heritage and winemaking tradition.
Pickup is included from hotels/private accommodations in Barcelona city center. However, pickups from the cruise port or the airport are not included and are specifically excluded from this service.
After a scenic ascent on the cogwheel train, you’ll arrive at the Monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat, a living sanctuary founded almost a thousand years ago and still home to a working Benedictine community. As you walk through the basilica and monastery grounds, you’ll learn how generations of monks have preserved not only the faith and traditions of this sacred site, but also its music, art, and education. The combination of ancient devotion, dramatic mountain landscapes, and quiet spiritual atmosphere makes Montserrat not only a site of religious significance, but also a place for reflection, awe, and connection.
After your visit to the monastery, the day continues with a stop at a family-owned organic winery. Depending on availability, your winery visit will take place either in DO Penedès at Finca Ca n’Estella, or in DO Pla de Bages at Oller del Mas, an estate set at the foot of Montserrat. Both wineries offer a deeply personal approach to their craft, reflecting generations of knowledge and care in every bottle. If you are particularly interested in discovering Cava, we recommend mentioning this in the comments when booking — we will then do our best to arrange your visit to Penedès, the homeland of traditional sparkling wine. If you are more drawn to red wines, we suggest Oller del Mas in Pla de Bages, known for its organic, character-driven reds shaped by the unique local soils and microclimate. If no preference is indicated, the winery will be selected based on availability and operational considerations, ensuring a high-quality, authentic experience in either region.
