With the quiet trail and unique villages, together with the stunning scenery, the Larke Pass trek is one of the classic treks. The crossing of Larke La (5160m) pass, one of the highest Himalayan valleys, is a major highlight which offers remarkable panoramas of Manaslu, Himal Chuli (7893m), Himlung (7126m) and Cheo Himal (6820m).
As a controlled area of Nepal, the Manaslu region has fewer tourists than the other open destinations in Nepal. You will start ascending the impressive gorge of the Budhi Gandaki then pass by tiny villages and enter the world of Tibet. You will see the number of the high Himalayas around the Nepal-Tibet border and the sceneries turn even more impressive as you enter into the alpine environment on the approach to the Larke La (5135m), with big peaks on all sides.
Upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), you will be met by our Airport Representative and transferred to the hotel. There will be a brief pre-trip group discussion.
Famous as the 'Monkey Temple' (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath), which is one of the largest Stupas in Asia are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
We enjoy views of the landscape along with the mountain scenery during the drive. We will be driving on a smooth road from Kathmandu to Dhading Bensi then the road from Dhanding Bensi to Machhakhola via Arughat town.
We trek through a narrow trail being a few ups and downs and finally cross Tharo Khola and reach Khorlabesi. We come across a small Hotspring in Tatopani a bit further. From the hot spring, we climb over another ridge, then cross the Budhi Gandaki on a suspension bridge, climb on a wide, well-crafted staircase, then across a landslide and over a ridge to Dobhan. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Yaru Khola, we walk toward Jagat via Tharo Bharyang.
Today, we trek up to Ghatta Khola passing by Salleri, and Sirdibas. We further continue walking upstream to a long suspension bridge in Philim, beautiful Gurung settlements. The route now goes through a steep, uninhabited gorge from Ekle Bhatti. We then descend to the grassy land slopes and cross the Budhi Gandaki. We continue through bamboo forests to the tiny village.
After leaving Deng, we cross the Budi Gandaki several times today and come across several Bombas along the route. The trail follows the river upstream through a dense forest. The pleasant walk after crossing the river at an impressive spot where it thunders down a narrow gorge continues after a final steep climb, we reach Namrung. Namrung village is an excellent viewpoint for Siring and Ganesh Himal and distant Mt. Himal Chuli in the south.
The trail follows a trail that is lined with a long Mani stone wall near Lho Gaun, and then up the hillside to the ridge and the Pungen Glacier.
We reach Lihi, a village with chortens and barley terraces. We pass by Sho, Lho and Shyala villages before reaching Sama Village. We explore the famous Ribung Gompa enjoying amazing views of Mt. Manaslu from Lho village. In Shyala village, we will be surrounded by high mountains like Himal Chuli and Peak 29 (Ngadi Chuli) to the left, Manaslu and large glaciers straight ahead, other peaks to the right, and distant Ganesh Himal.
the trek is relatively easy. We descend to the Budhi Gandaki River. It is an easy trail on a shelf above the river passing the juniper and birch forests of Kermo Kharka. We cross the Budhi Gandaki bridge and climb steeply onto a promontory between two forks of the river. Passing by the kani we head Samdo.
We'll have two options today; either hike at the backside of the Samdo village for viewing Mt. Manaslu along with other Himalayan ranges including Simrang, Hiunchuli, Ngadi, Larkye Peak, Cheo, Or even do a longer trip to the Gya La (large pass) to the north of Samdo, a more frequently used trading route to Tibet.
We continue walk down the edge, cross the wooden bridge over Budi Gandaki and begin gradual up. We pass by two streams and witnessing the Larkya Glacier, we go around the Salka Khola valley and walk up again to the shelter called Dharmshala at an altitude of (4450 m), also known as Larke Phedi. Today's short walk will be worth for acclimatization.
Today is the most challenging day in the entire journey. First, we head a valley on the north side of the Larkya Glaciers from where fantastic views of Cho Danda and Larkya Peak are seen. The trail is gradual up from the glacier until we cross the part of Lyarke pass. Magnificent views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kangguru and the vast Annapurna II from Lyarke pass 5160m. Restof the trail is easy until we trek to Bimthang from where outstanding panoramas of Mt. Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Himlung Himal and Cheo Himal can be viewed.
We walk through rhododendron forest and follow a trail through a narrow valley until we reach the highest cultivated land of the valley at Karche, 2785 meters. We make a steep climb over a ridge being wide bend to the river bank at 2580m and get Tilje village around half an hour further.
After arriving Dharapani we take a jeep right way and drive back to Kathmandu
