A historic marketplace named after the Hindu god Indra. Known for its vibrant energy, Indrachowk is home to bustling bazaars filled with colorful textiles, handcrafted jewelry, and traditional bead necklaces. A major highlight is the Akash Bhairav Temple, a striking blue-faced shrine dedicated to the sky god Bhairav. The square plays a central role during the Indra Jatra festival, when the streets come alive with cultural performances and religious processions.
From Indrachowk, the walk continues to Asan, one of the oldest and busiest trade centers in Kathmandu. This historic square has been a key stop along the ancient trade route between Tibet and India, and today, it remains a lively hub of commerce. The marketplace is filled with vendors selling aromatic spices, fresh produce, and traditional brassware. You will also visit the Annapurna Temple, dedicated to the goddess of abundance, where locals offer prayers for prosperity.
