Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel is a 17th-century neo-Gothic church famous for its tall pink spires and majestic ornate sanctuary.
It was in this house where Ignacio Allende, one of the most notorious heroes of Mexico's Independence, was born and raised. At the end of 1810 the house was confiscated by the viceregal government; months before, from there the first insurgent army left for its first formal battle.
Classifying the architecture style of the church of San Francisco is a real challenge. One expert says that its facade is Baroque, another pure Churrigueresque, one more Rococo, and yet another belief that it is a combination of all of them. In any case, the facade facing the small square of San Francisco has detailed quarry work, lavishly embellished.
Originally built in 1555, this square was the center of activity for the population, it was the market and meeting place in its time. Today the statue of Ignacio Allende is the protagonist of the square.
