What to expect

Enjoy a cooking experience in a traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse where you will make Shojin cuisine and sushi. Shojin cuisine is a Japanese vegetarian cooking style developed by Zen Buddhist monks over more than 700 years. Using vegetables, beans, tofu, and grains, it creates healthy and delicious dishes without meat or fish.

In this experience, you will cook Shojin dishes and sushi with a friendly English-speaking instructor and enjoy the meal you prepared.

・The experience takes place in a traditional Kyoto machiya townhouse with a small courtyard garden.
・You will make five Shojin dishes (including dessert) and four pieces of sushi.
・You will prepare temari sushi, small and colorful round sushi that are easy and fun to make.
・This is a private experience for your group.
・The instructor is a friendly Japanese host who speaks English and guides you step by step.
・Shojin cuisine is a vegetarian cooking style also known today as a healthy plant-based diet.
