A unique way to explore the Andean volcanoes and tropical highlights joining this amazing adventure that takes you biking the slopes of Cotopaxi volcano, class 3 with water rafting along the Pastaza River, cannoning through 5 waterfalls in the heart of the Sangay National Park, and more.
On our first day of this adventure, we are heading south of Quito to visit Cotopaxi National Park, traveling the famous route of the volcanoes. We use the travel time to absorb the sights of local villages, high Andean scenery, and the unique attire of the indigenous people of this region. Once we arrive in the national park, we will be 3800 meters above sea level (12,460 ft a.s.l. ) We begin our first hike in this gorgeous landscape around Limpiopungo Lake. Afterward, our journey continues up to Cotopaxi Volcano on a road that twists and turns its way to the parking lot of the refuge at 4.650 meters of altitude (15,250 ft. a.s.l.). From here we will hike to the refuge José Rivas at 4800 meters (15,750 ft. a.s.l.). Due to the extreme altitude, this seemingly short hike will take an hour. We will ascend to the beginning of the glacier, enjoy the views and in the afternoon we will continue our drive through the Andes to Baños.
This morning, we mountain bike from the Llanganates National Park down to the Pastaza River Canyon, having beautiful scenery of the cloud forest. The road brings us through some Andean farms and a beautiful canyon with many waterfalls. While descending into the jungle, we will have a breath-taking view of Baños town, very well known for its spectacular location right on the foothills of the Tungurahua volcano, which is active since 1999. This is the main attraction of this region. At the end of our biking experience, we will hike down for 20 minutes to see ¨Pailon Del Diablo¨, the second largest waterfall in Ecuador. We enjoy a delicious lunch by the Pastaza River.
Early In the morning we will take our gear and transfer to the road of waterfalls along Pastaza canyon with beautiful lookouts and fascinated formations of volcanic rock along the old road that takes you to the Amazon rainforest until we raft the amazing Pastaza river class 3 for 1 and half hour. After a nice lunch, we will return to Banos and we take a free afternoon to enjoy exploring this beautiful city and take a swim in the volcanic hot springs located just in town.
