The Kelani River that flows through Kitulgala offers a thrilling experience with its rapids and tides. The river has five major rapids and four minor rapids, and the entire rafting experience takes about 90 minutes to cover a distance of 6.5 km. The activity is open to anyone over the age of 10 and includes safety gear and a comprehensive safety briefing by whitewater rafting instructors. In addition to whitewater rafting, Kitulgala is also popular for sports like confidence jumping, stream sliding, waterfall abseiling, jungle trekking, bird watching, cave exploration, and river trips and expeditions.
