Sometimes the path less traveled is a far better way to go than the more popular routes. And when it comes to the beautiful Annapurna Mountains, the best way to see them is on the newly opened Mardi Himal Trekking route.
Situated west of the beautiful Lakeside city of Pokhara, the Mardi Himal Trekking is the perfect way to enjoy all of the natural beauty of the Himalayas without all the crowds. It’s a seven-day trek that takes you to some high elevations that feature the finest of mountain views, local culture and the true serenity of the Annapurna Mountains.
This is a moderate trek that is very enjoyable. It doesn’t withhold any of the mountain beauty, giving you stunning panoramic views all along the way.
We pick up all travelers from your hotel in Pokhara.
The journey leaves Pokhara by a local vehicle for a 45-minute ride to the village of Kande. From here, the trek begins to the little village of Deurauli. The trail is challenging as we are quickly gaining elevation. We arrive at Deurauli after 3 – 4 hours, spending a night at a local tea house.
The air smells as alive as we walk through beautiful pine forests for part of the day! This area has been newly opened for trekking which makes it virgin territory. We arrive at Forest Camp to stay at a little tea house. Because it’s a new trekking route, the accommodations are rather basic, but the food is good after a hard day’s trek. Trekking time is around 4 -5 hours.
Today is a day of climbing as we move above the tree line to see incredible vistas. Before us are the amazing Annapurna Mountains in sensational glory. We can easily see three of the 10 tallest peaks in the world. We make our way to High Camp after trekking for around 5 hours, staying at a local tea house.
Mardi Himal is becoming a popular climbing peak and Mardi Himal Base Camp is the place they start. We make our way to Base Camp to get some of the best views of the mountains. Mt. Mardi Himal stands as a beautiful snowcapped peak rising to an elevation of 5,587 m (18,330 ft.) Trekking time today is long, around 7 – 8 hours.
We start to leave the alpine regions behind as we make our way toward the little village of Kalimati. It’s a tiny little village, but offers a quaint little tea house with wonderful owners. The wife is a good cook. We start seeing trees again as we cross under the tree line. We will spend between 5 – 6 hours trekking.
We are now approaching beautiful green valleys, and our destination is Long Valley that is nestled between the snowcapped peaks. This is fertile farm country and we will see some small villages and beautiful farms with fields of yellow mustard in season. Because of the newness of this trek, no tea house has yet to be established in Long Valley. However, we know of a really nice home stay where a local family has a guest room where our clients can spend the night. n. Trekking time is 4 – 5 hours.
It’s a short distance from Long Valley to where we can pick up a jeep or local bus to return to Pokhara. It’s a beautiful ride of just 2 ½ hours to reach Pokhara, the end of our journey.
