The Great Wall at Jinshanling is one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall with many original features. The pictures of this section often show in China's official images of the Great Wall. Jinshanling is a remote and relatively isolated section of the Great Wall. You can find many poems and tablet writings on the Wall left when Qi Jiguang directed the rebuilding of this section of the Great Wall 500 years ago. Meticulous detail is evident in the construction of the Wall. The uneven steps meant to slow down advancing troops should they make it onto the Wall. The narrowing curves and paths limit the invaders' movement, making them vulnerable to the defending army. You will enjoy the history with 3.5 hours of walking. After lunch, our camping manager will transfer you to Gubeikou, an older and the oldest section of the Great Wall near Beijing. Here you will have the chance to walk to this part of the Wall to watch the splendid sunset.
Gubeikou Great Wall occupies a strategically important location, which is difficult to access. Situated between Shanhaiguan Pass and Juyongguan Pass, and about 62 miles to Beijing, the bastion is protecting the northern gateway to the capital. This part of the Wall is precisely the battlefield between the Chinese resistance army and invading Japanese troops in 1931. You will see the splendid sunset here (weather permitting) and take the photos that only a sunset walk can make possible.
Waking up at about 5:30 am in the summer, or 6:30 am in the winter, you will meet the magnificent sunrise from the Great Wall. While you are camping overnight inside a historic watchtower where ancient general used to stay, you will have the unique chance to welcome the beautiful sunrise from the Great Wall! The views are so great that you will never forget them. After having continental breakfast, you will be transferred to Gubeikou Station to take the bullet train at 10 am to go back to Beijing. You'll arrive at 12:03 pm at Beijing North Station at Zhongzhimen. You may take a subway, bus or taxi to go back to your hotel.
