On this 8-hour roundtrip from Bergen, you will witness the amazing variety of the Western Norway's scenery! Lush forests, fjords, rushing mountain rivers and waterfalls, magnificent highland landscape and, of course, the Folgefonna glacier. This is a private tour only for you and your party - in a comfortable vehicle with a local driver-guide. Choose from 3 options: 1) Basic package, 2) Tour with a picnic basket for 3, and 3) Tour with a lunch basket for 7. This tour starts and ends in Bergen centre.

Car on this tour is one of our Mercedes minivans. When only 1-3 people are going on this tour, we may use our Tesla Model X. All of our cars have Passenger Transport Licence.

Pickup details:

Suggested start time for this tour is 09:00 am. Your private driver guide meets you at the lobby of your hotel in Bergen centre, or at the gate of your cruise ship terminal. We pick up from ALL HOTELS in Bergen city centre area. Usually we start out from Bergen centre at 9am. Back at 5 pm. If you would like to go on the glacier hike, recommended departure time from Bergen centre is 7:45 am. Back at approx. 8 pm. There is an additional fee for extra time of 4000 NOK. You can pay on site by card.

    Bergen

    Our tour starts in the city of Bergen - the Gateway to the Fjords. The city was founded in 1070 and contains many historical and cultural landmarks. We will pass some of them on our way from the city and also on our return to Bergen. (Usually we do not stop here.)

    Sørfjorden or the South fjord is part of the Osterfjord which is a peculiar natural phenomenon: an salt water inlet that surrounds the largest inland island in Northern Europe - Osterøy Island - enclosed by contitental land. We drive along the South fjord until we come the the crossroads in Trengereid.

    From the village of Trengereid we take Route #7 to the Hardangerfjord. (Usually we do not stop here.)

    Hardangervegen or the Hardanger Road is Norwegian route #7. This road is a tourist attraction in itself. We will see beautiful sights along the way: mountains, lakes and waterfalls. On the way to the Hardangerfjord we will make two photo stops at 2 waterfalls: Fossen Bratte and Steinsdalsfossen.

    We make a stop at Fossen Bratte waterfall - 259 feet (79 meters) tall. The view is great and you can take some memorable pictures here. A short walking tour to the bottom of the waterfall is highly recommended - you simply must feel the roaring freshness and gentle and pure water drops on your face.

    The next stop is at Steinsdalsfossen waterfall - 164 feet (50 meters) tall. You can actually walk behind the falling water without getting wet. A walk behind the waterfall to the view point is highly recommended.

    We pass through a small town of Norheimsund - the local municipal administration center on our way to the Hardangerfjord.

    The Hardangerfjord is the second longest fjord in Norway. We will be travelling along the fjord to Tørvikbygd - a small village from where a car ferry will take us acorss the fjord to Jondal - a settlement on the south side of the Hardangerfjord. The ferry ride takes approx. 20 minutes. While on the ferry, we can leave the car and enjoy a different view of the fjord.

    The ferry arrives in the village of Jondal and from here we start our ride to Folgefonna glacier. Mesmerising views of the rugged mountain scenery will make an unforgettable impression.

    Folgefonna National Park

    Ascending from the sea level at the Hardangerfjord to the hight of approx. 3940 feet (1200 m) ASL, the mountain road takes us to Folgefonna glacier. Folgefonna has a ski center operating during summer. Here we will have our picnic/lunch if this option is booked. A glacier hike can be booked as a part of a group or with a private glacier guide, for additional payment in advance - we would have to make arrangements. After a refreshing break at the bottom of the glacier we start our return to Bergen.

    We return to Jondal. The ferry takes us back to the north side of the Hardangerfjord. Ferry crossing takes approx. 20 minutes. We return to Bergen the same way.
