Pomaire is a small town of pottery artisans, belonging to the Commune of Melipilla, and is very famous for its great talent in clay. Its main attraction is the pottery workshops that are found throughout the town. One of its main streets is Roberto Bravo, where clay crafts are sold and typical dishes of Chilean cuisine are offered, such as pastel de choclo and empanada. The pottery is characterized by its reddish hue and smooth, shiny surface. Its pottery tradition dates back to before the arrival of the Spanish. It is possible to find vases, pails, ornaments and decorative items, highlighting the "chanchitos", piggy banks in the shape of three-legged pigs that are said to bring good luck.
