What to expect

1.Trekking and Hiking:
The pace is “pole pole” (slowly, slowly) to allow for acclimatization and endurance.
2.. Camping and Resting
Most routes involve camping overnight at designated campsites, except the Marangu Route, which has huts.
3.Meals and Hydration:-
Travelers eat nutritious, high-energy meals prepared by camp cooks.
Drinking plenty of water and rehydration fluids is vital to prevent altitude sickness.
4.Acclimatization and Altitude Adjustment
Climbers often do acclimatization hikes — short treks to higher altitude, then descend to sleep lower (“climb high, sleep low”).
5.Photography and Nature Observation.
Travelers often spend time taking photos, birdwatching, or observing plants and wildlife like colobus monkeys or giant groundsels.
6.Cultural Interaction.
Climbers often interact with local guides and porters, many of whom are Chagga people from nearby villages.
7.Summit Attempt.
The most challenging part happens very early morning (around midnight) on summit day.
Travelers hike in the dark to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at sunrise.
8.Descent and Celebration.
After summiting, travelers descend to lower camps or the park gate.
