This trail leads to Mong La Danda and involves a continuous two-hour ascent. Despite being less frequented by trekkers than the EBC trail, it offers spectacular views.
Leaving Dole behind, we will ascend to Machhermo through a wide valley, enjoying magnificent views of the Kangtega, Thamserku, and Kusum Kanguru mountains. The trek to Machhermo takes approximately 5-6 hours. Along the way, we will pass through some of the region's best lodges. Machhermo is also home to a hospital specifically for trekkers. If you wish, you can visit the hospital to gather information about Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
Our trek will take us on a steep ascent along a ridge, offering breathtaking views of the Kanga and Cho-Oyu mountains. We will then climb up to Kharka, passing stony houses along the way, before continuing on to the village of Panka (4380m). This village was tragically washed away by a large avalanche in November of 1995. The trail then narrows and steepens as we approach the Ngozumpa Glacier. We will cross a wooden bridge before arriving at the first lake, and then continue on to the second lake (4720m) and Dudh Pokhari (4750m), which is located very near to Gokyo (4780m), where we will spend the night.
Early in the morning at 3 o’clock, we will commence our ascent to Gokyo Ri with flashlights in hand. Don't forget to bring your camera and a hot water bottle. After soaking in the views, we'll descend back to the lodge for breakfast before trekking back to Dole, which should take around 5 hours.
