What to expect

Canyoneering has become increasingly popular in Utah, with great options around Moab. Expect to work out your whole body as you make your way through the canyons by hiking, rappelling, scrambling over rock and splashing through water-filled pools. No experience is needed to try it out, but participants must be physically fit and ready for a challenging outdoor adventure.

The half-day trip provides an excellent introduction to canyoneering, suitable for adventurous beginners who want a taste of the sport. The full-day trip to Robbers Roost is rated as moderately difficult and is suitable for active people that are ready for a more challenging experience. Canyoneering newcomers are welcome, but expect a full physical and mental workout.

Your guide shows you how to employ teamwork and technical canyoneering skills when rappelling, doing rope-assisted down climbs, chimneying through slot canyons and negotiating water-filled potholes. Please see Itinerary below for more details.

Additional info

  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • What to bring: Hiking shoes, Day Pack for all of your essentials (PLEASE pack over a gallon per person, especially for in hotter times of the year - camelbacks or multiple re-usable water bottles work great), hair tie (for long hair), sun protection necessities such as: sunscreen/lib balm/sun glasses/hat/sun hoodie, snacks and your camera (carried at your own risk) if need be
  • In hotter months of the season, please keep in mind you will need to pack/drink a lot of water and that canyoneering can be exhausting for certain individuals (due to the intense high temperatures alone)
  • This trip needs a minimum of 3 individuals to run. If your tour does not meet the minimum, we will offer you other tour options or issue a full refund.
