Built in 1452 by Fatih Sultan Mehmet to defend Istanbul and prevent aid from the north, the fortress is located in Sariyer, Istanbul. It was constructed in just four months and includes three large towers, four main gates, and a secondary Cemetery Gate. Explore the museum garden featuring cannons, roses, terracotta, and part of the chain that sealed the Golden Horn.
Due to ongoing restoration work, only the garden of Rumeli Fortress is open to visitors. Access to the interior of the fortress is not available at this time.
