A small-group day tour from Ljubljana over the Vršič Pass into the Soča Valley, with a licensed local guide and up to 8 guests.
The morning stops at Lake Jasna at Kranjska Gora, then climbs the Vršič Pass, Slovenia's highest mountain road, fifty hairpin bends through Triglav National Park on a road built by prisoners of war in WWI, before dropping into the emerald Soča Valley.
In Bovec, the group splits by choice.
1. Option: The Kozjak waterfalls & Kobarid option is an easy walk to the Kozjak Waterfall, a turquoise pool in a rock chamber, and time in Kobarid, whose museum tells the story of the WWI Soča Front.
2. Option: The Soča rafting is three hours on the river with pro crew and full equipment, beginners and children welcome, fee paid separately. Everyone regroups in Bovec for the drive back to Ljubljana.
Max 8 in a comfortable minivan, not a big coach. Admissions optional, paid locally, prices shared upfront. Same local team since 2011, official Gray Line Slovenia licensee.
Opposite the City Hotel
First stop at Lake Jasna, just above Kranjska Gora: two small lakes of clear green water with the Julian Alps straight behind them, and the bronze Zlatorog on the shore. A short stop for coffee and photographs before the road starts to climb.
Over the Vršič Pass, Slovenia's highest mountain road at 1,611 metres: fifty numbered hairpin bends through Triglav National Park, built by prisoners of war in WWI, past the wooden Russian Chapel, then down into the Trenta valley where the Soča begins. Photo stops on the way.
Bovec is the base for the afternoon. Lunch in town, then the group splits by the option you booked: Kozjak waterfalls & Kobarid, or Soča rafting (3 hours). Everyone regroups in Bovec for the drive back to Ljubljana.
Soča rafting option: three hours on the emerald Soča with a professional crew and full equipment, beginners and children welcome. Rafting fee paid separately, we contact you with the details after booking. Bring swimwear, a towel and a change of clothes.
