Trade the beach for the mountains for a day. San Sebastián del Oeste is a centuries-old silver mining town and Pueblo Mágico in the Sierra Madre: cobblestone streets, white colonial walls and a quiet plaza with a bandstand.
On the way up, your guide shares the history of Mexico. You'll stop at a hacienda that makes its own artisanal tequila for a tasting, then at a family coffee farm to see organic coffee go from plant to cup. Lunch is included at a local comedor: quesadillas, machaca, beans, rice, chicken mole and agua fresca. After lunch, walk to the town hall, the 1800s jail, the church and the bandstand, with free time to wander.
Hotel pickup, guide, tequila tasting, coffee tour and lunch are included. You only pay for alcoholic drinks, purchases and tips. Pickup runs from 7:45 to 10:00 am depending on your hotel, and you're back around 5:00 to 6:00 pm. The mountain road has curves, so this tour isn't ideal if you get carsick or have limited mobility.

Pickup time depends on your hotel: Nuevo Vallarta and Punta de Mita from 7:45 to 9:50 am, South Zone and Romantic Zone 8:40 to 9:25 am, Hotel Zone 9:30 to 9:55 am, Marina Vallarta 10:00 am. We send your exact pickup time and spot (hotel lobby or a nearby meeting point) by WhatsApp or email the afternoon before. Please be ready 5 minutes early. You're back at your hotel between about 5:00 and 6:00 pm.

The drive climbs into the Sierra Madre while your guide shares the history of Mexico. First stop: a hacienda that makes its own artisanal tequila, to see how it's made and taste it. Next, a family coffee farm (Quinta Doña Mary) where organic coffee goes from plant to cup, with a tasting. Then sit down to a home-style lunch at a local comedor in San Sebastián del Oeste: quesadillas, machaca, beans, rice, chicken mole and agua fresca. Tasting, coffee tour and lunch are included.
