This is where the Virgin Mary appeared in the Grotto of Massabielle to the poor shepherd girl, Bernadette, a total of 18 times between February 11 and July 16, 1858. Since then, this little market town has been a world-renowned pilgrimage site. Tonight you may wish to partake in a candlelight procession

    Over the years, millions of the faithful have flocked to the small village of Lourdes nestled at the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in Southwestern France where it is said the sick can be healed miraculously. In 1858, the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared eighteen times to a local girl, Bernadette. We will visit the famous Grotto of Massabielle where Bernadette experienced her visions and where the healing spring flows. We will visit the Rosary, St. Pius X, and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Basilicas, as well as the healing baths, the candle trolleys, Bernadette's home, the jail she and her family lived in, among other Bernadette-related sites.
