Upon arrival at Colombo CMB airport, you will meet and greet by the tour leader and will be transferred to your hotel. (Alternatively, can be pick-up from any hotel in Colombo Or Negombo) The first destination will be Negombo coastal town, which has long been known as the most popular beach in Sri Lanka, famous for its golden sandy beach, food and fun. For day one, we haven’t planned any activity, thus you are free to arrive in Sri Lanka at any time. If your flight arrives early in the day, relax on the beach and pool of your cozy hotel. Afternoon, you will visit the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE), since it is the best time to capture the beautiful scenery of sunset. King Kasyapa (477 – 495 BC) built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. Sigiriya refuses to reveal its secrets easily; in fact, you have to climb a series of vertiginous staircases to reach the top. In the morning, you’ll begin your day with a visit to the ancient Ritigala Monastery, a hidden gem nestled within a protected forest reserve.
After breakfast, visit Dambulla Rock Temple (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE). Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. It has been treasured by many kings since the 1st century B.C. The rock towers 160m over the surrounding plains and houses 5 cave temples with some of the most unique and significant historical drawings. The murals cover an area of 2100 square metres and depict the temptation of the demon Mara and Buddha’s first sermon.
Thereafter, proceed towards Kandy, the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. It's set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiverse rainforests. Kandy is also famous for its sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth Relic (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE).
After breakfast, visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden, one of the best botanical gardens in Asia. Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres.
In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to explore Kandy’s city centre at your own pace. Wander through the vibrant streets, visit the local markets, or relax by the scenic Kandy Lake soaking in the charm of this historic hill capital.
Next: Visit a tea plantation (ADMISSION FEES INCLUDED). Sri Lanka, tea and tourism are words that cannot be separated. Explore the cold and misty hills that host lush green blankets of tea plantations. Step into the tea factory where processing the prestigious brand of Ceylon Tea, to observe a rich tradition kept alive up to date. As you see the hissing and swishing of machines, inhaling the heavenly scent arising from these facilities, make sure to end your tea state in style over a perfectly blended cup of pure Ceylon Tea.
Afternoon, you'll visit Nuwara Eliya City, is often referred to as “Little England” because many of the buildings in this city retain from the British colonial period, such as the Queen's Cottage, the General's House, the Grand Hotel, the Hill Club and the Town Post Office. In the morning, you’ll visit the beautiful Hakgala Botanical Garden, the second-largest garden in Sri Lanka and a true highland treasure. After breakfast, you’ll head to Nanu Oya Railway Station to board one of the most breathtaking train rides in the world. This iconic journey to Ella takes you through the heart of Sri Lanka’s hill country, a dreamscape of emerald-green tea plantations, cascading waterfalls, misty mountain peaks, and charming local villages. After arriving in Ella, take time to explore this laid-back and much-loved hill country village. Ella has captured the hearts of travelers from around the world with its scenic beauty, vibrant cafés, and relaxed atmosphere. After breakfast, you’ll visit Sri Lanka's capital city of Colombo, which has an interesting history running back to the fifth century. Even in ancient times, this was an important port city in the East-West sea trade. Nowadays it has become a bustling modern town with a unique atmosphere. The colourful streets, restaurants and modern shopping malls attract hordes of locals and tourists alike. At Colombo, you have the opportunity to visit all the highlighted places in the city such as Red Mosque, Gangarama temple, Independent square and also do some last-minute shopping as well. Perhaps, you may intend to pop into a famous and internationally renowned restaurant in Colombo to end your trip over an unforgettable meal.
Thereafter, proceed to the airport in time for your return flight or we drop you back at your hotel at Negombo or Colombo to end this wonderful tour across the island of Sri Lanka.
