Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon is a cathedral located in the downtown of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Established by French colonists who initially named it Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Saïgon, the cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. Originally designed in 1965 as a modest three-story building, the structure was later expanded to six floors to meet growing demands during the Vietnam War. Redesigned by Adrian Wilson and Associates, it was constructed between 1965 and 1967 by RMK-BRJ with the help of around 500 Vietnamese workers. While most materials were imported from the U.S., key elements like sand, gravel, and bricks were locally sourced. Officially opened on September 29, 1967, the building cost approximately $2.6 million and stands as a symbol of a pivotal period in Vietnam’s history.

Ben Thanh Market is one of the oldest markets in Ho Chi Minh City. It had appeared before the French invaded Saigon (former name of Ho Chi Minh City), built at the beginning of the 17th century for small traders to exchange their goods on Ben Nghe River’s bank, next to a harbor near Gia Dinh Citadel. Ben Thanh Market is one of the busiest local markets in Ho Chi Minh City that you should visit to enjoy famous Vietnamese foods and shopping for lovely souvenirs.
