In this self-guided 2 days tour, you will visit the Yungang Grottoes, Hanging Monastery, Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda and Nine Dragon Screen. Visit the Yungang Grottoes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for spectacular rock carvings, and the Hanging Monastery, an ornate temple built into a cliff. You’ll also see the towering Wooden Pagoda and the Nine Dragon Screen wall, a great introduction to the rich history and culture of the region.

Your friendly English speaking driver will pick you up from Beijing downtown at 7:30am and transfer you to Datong (3-4 hours driving time). On the way you will enjoy the beautiful countryside view. Once you arrive in Datong, enjoy your lunch in a local restaurant nearby the Yungang Grottoes(on your own cost). After lunch, visit the Yungang Grottoes, a World Cultural Heritage Site since 2001. It is considered by UNESCO as a "masterpiece of early Chinese Buddhist cave art and represent the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from south and central Asia with Chinese cultural traditions, starting in the 5th century CE under Imperial auspices.
Continue to the famous Nine-Dragon Screen, built for the Prince Hongwu. It is presently the oldest and largest glazed screen in China. It is three times larger than the one in Beihai Park in Beijing. After finish the visiting, meet your driver at the same point where he drops you off and transfer to your hotel in Datong (at your own arrangement).
Your driver will meet you in the hotel at 8:00am and head to the Hanging Monastery (around 1.5 hours driving), one of China's most unique and remarkable feats of wooden architecture. The monastery is also the only one built in honor to Sakyamuni, Laozi, and Confucius, who are founders of Buddism, Taoism and Confucianism respectively.
After enjoying your lunch at a local restaurant, continue your trip to Ying Xian Wooden Pagoda. It's one of the planet's oldest wooden buildings. Not a single nail was used in the construction of the nine-story, 67m-high structure, which has thus far survived seven major earthquakes. After finish this self-guided tour, transfer back to Beijing. You will be back to your hotel in Beijing around 8:00.p.m.
