Two historical, beautiful, and unique UNESCO heritage sites in one go.
Alcobaça Monastery is a place where eternal love is celebrated, as it is the resting place of Pedro and Inês, crowned Queen of Portugal… after death. We will tell you all about the history and daily life of this ancient monastery, one the biggest of all Cistercian centers in Europe. “Pray and Work” was the motto of the monks, who left a strong legacy beyond spiritual matters: they were also famous for their delicious pastries.

Afterwards, we'll visit Nazaré where you will be able to take in some massive views and learn about the legends and traditions of this unique place that was once a fishing village and is now a surfing Meca.

After lunch in Nazaré, it's time to visit Batalha Monastery, a true masterpiece of Portuguese Late Gothic architecture. You will see the marvelous royal pantheon and learn all about the Battle (Batalha) of Aljubarrota, which paved the way for Portugal to become the first global empire.

    Batalha Monastery

The Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, also known as the Monastery of Batalha is without doubt one of the most beautiful examples of Portuguese and European architecture. This dazzling architectural ensemble was born out of a promise the King, João I, made in thanks for his victory at Aljubarrota, a battle fought on August 14, 1385, which assured him the throne and guaranteed independence for Portugal. The construction took over 150 years, across various phases. This is the reason why one can find not only gothic style (for the most part), but also manualine style and some renaissance touches.
