Fish the Andaman Sea the way the locals do, with the people who know it best. Your longtail is crewed by Sea Gypsies, the indigenous fishing community of the coast, who read these waters better than any map and supply much of the seafood sold in Phuket’s markets and restaurants. There are only 3 to 5 anglers per boat, so you get real time on the water, a real chance to learn the craft and a crew that has time for you. Drop a line to the seabed with a spinning rod or a hand line, watch the sky turn gold from the deck, then step ashore to a seaside cafe where your catch is cooked to order, fried, steamed or served as sashimi. No tour bus, no crowd, just a longtail, the sea and the story of your own catch. A hands-on Thai fishing adventure from the first cast to the last bite of dinner.

    Rawai Beach

Your afternoon begins at Rawai Pier on the southern coast of Phuket, where traditional longtail boats rock beside the jetty. After your hotel transfer, you meet your guide and the Sea Gypsy crew, the indigenous fishing community of the Andaman Sea, and settle into your boat with a small group of 3 to 5 anglers. Around 14:00 the engine starts, the longtail pulls away from the pier and heads for open water and the fishing grounds near Bon Island.

After a sail of about 30 minutes across the Andaman Sea, your longtail slows near Bon Island. Your Sea Gypsy crew knows where the fish like to gather and picks the spot. Lower a line to the seabed with a spinning rod or a hand line and wait for the first pull. Snapper, grouper, sea bass, barracuda and tuna are all possible catches. Fishing here is about patience and a little luck, and every bite is a small adventure of its own.

As the afternoon turns to evening, the light softens and the sea begins to glow. Keep your line in the water while the sun sinks toward the horizon. If the sky is clear, you watch the sunset from the deck of a longtail boat, one of the best seats on Phuket.

    Rawai Beach

Back on shore, you sit down at a cafe by the sea. The kitchen cooks your catch to order: fried, boiled or steamed, with tom yum soup, fish soup and sashimi on the table. Share the stories of the day over dinner while the guide arranges your transfer back to the hotel. Drinks are paid separately.
