Meet your guide at Safaga Port and drive 140 miles to Luxor, home to Egypt’s most iconic monuments. Begin at the majestic Karnak Temple, dedicated to Amun Ra. Walk through the impressive Great Hypostyle Hall, surrounded by towering, hieroglyph-covered columns. See the 70-foot granite obelisks and colossal statues of pharaohs, then admire the reliefs and murals added by generations of rulers who left their mark on this sacred site.
In ancient times, Karnak and Luxor Temples were connected by the Avenue of Ram-Headed Sphinxes, where Amun-Ra was carried annually to visit his consort Mut. Over the centuries, Luxor Temple evolved through many civilizations, with each leaving its trace. Its walls display Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic influences, creating a vivid timeline of Egypt’s layered history.
Begin your tour by crossing the Nile to the West Bank, home of the legendary Valley of the Kings. Here, ancient pharaohs concealed their mummies and treasures deep within the desert hills. Step inside three beautifully decorated tombs, where vibrant murals still cover the walls after thousands of years. Each tomb is carved directly into the mountain rock, offering a fascinating look into royal burial traditions. You also have the option to visit the famous tomb of Tutankhamun for an additional fee.
Continue your West Bank tour with a visit to the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s first female pharaoh who ruled for nearly 20 successful years. Known as El Deir el-Bahari, it was later used as a Coptic monastery, giving it its name. Unlike other temples, it was built from limestone and partly carved into the cliffside. Its impressive design features three terraces, with reliefs illustrating the queen’s divine birth.
These two massive sandstone statues depict Pharaoh Amenhotep III seated on his throne. Located west of Luxor and facing the Nile, they feature carvings of his family and the Nile god Hapi. Named by the Greeks after the hero Memnon, they stand as ancient guardians of the Theban necropolis. After the visit, return to Safaga Port.
