What to expect

Sundari is a warm and cheerful host who welcomes guests into her beautifully converted in-laws’ house, surrounded by fruit trees and traditional décor. A passionate cook since the age of eight, she enjoys sharing the culinary traditions of South India.

Your experience begins with a tour of Sundari’s home and an introduction to the dishes you will prepare. Then join her in the kitchen for your hands-on Chennai cooking class. As a Tamil Brahmin, Sundari prepares only vegetarian food, and together you will cook 4–5 dishes that form a traditional South Indian meal. Sundari also offers Chettinad, Kerala, and Karnataka cuisine, showcasing South Indian regional flavors.

Enjoy your meal the local way, eating with your hands from stainless steel plates or banana leaves. If you join for dinner or a weekend class, you may also meet her husband Krishna.

Choose the optional market visit to walk with Sundari to the nearby Sastri Nagar neighborhood supermarket where she shops. She will introduce you to South Indian spices, fresh produce, and pantry staples, and help you purchase spices to take home. Please note this visit is to a neighborhood supermarket rather than an open market.
