Meet your host Jorge at his home and drive to the local market together. Jorge will give you a tour of the market and you may even buy fresh ingredients to use in your cooking class later.

Jorge offers a cooking demonstration, where you will learn to cook Chilean dishes in his home kitchen. His kitchen is a modest kitchen, so you might use the dining area for demonstrations and to prep the ingredients for your meal. The cooking portion of the experience will last approximately 1 hour, during which you will learn to make 1-2 dishes.

A few dishes that you might try are palta reina with tuna (tuna stuffed avocado), fresh bruschetta with Chilean canned mussel, pastel de papas (a classic dish made in Chilean homes, not always found in restaurants, it is something close to a shepherd’s pie) and Chilean Papayas with cream.

What to expect

Meet Jorge and Mariela, whose love story began at a concert where Jorge was performing. Jorge is a professional musician who is well known in Chile, and music is an important part of the experience — you may even hear songs from his collection of more than 1000 vinyl records. Jorge learned to cook from his grandmother, who prepared meals for the whole family, inspiring his passion for traditional Chilean cuisine. Mariela, a tour guide who speaks Spanish, English, and Portuguese, brings her global perspective and warmth to the experience.

You’ll meet Jorge at his home and visit a local market such as La Vega or a neighborhood fair (depending on the day). Back home, enjoy a cooking demonstration and learn to prepare 1–2 traditional Chilean dishes before sharing an authentic, fresh, home-cooked meal together, accompanied by stories, food, and music.
