What to expect

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. be welcomed into Lorette and Desmond’s beautiful home in Grassy Park, built by Lorette's dad 44 years ago. Lorette bought the home from her parents when she and Desmond married and they redesigned and renovated their home themselves. After a welcome drink, join Lorette in her spacious, modern kitchen for your South African Cape Malay cooking class. Lorette is also a keen gardener and loves using fresh herbs from her garden to cook her meals. You can expect to learn how to make 2-3 of the dishes which might include mini roti's with chicken curry (the Cape Malay roti is a delicious unleavened flatbread served with chicken curry), bobotie (a South African dish of curried minced meat baked with a savory custard served with aromatic yellow rice and roasted vegetables) and malva pudding. The cooking class portion of the experience will last between 1-2 hours before you share the meal you helped prepare over conversation with Lorette and Desmond. Lorette's mom and dad (Rachel and Kenneth) also live on the property and they might pop in to say hello from time to time.
