What to expect

Meet Ashok at your centrally located Jodhpur hotel before driving together for 30 minutes in his jeep to his family home in Salawas, a weaver village near Jodhpur. On arrival, Leela will welcome you into their traditional mud house with a refreshing cup of masala chai. Then, begin your village experience with a walk through the vegetable market, where Ashok will introduce you to seasonal produce, spices, and ingredients used in Rajasthani cuisine.

Return home for a hands-on, 2-hour vegetarian cooking class in Jodhpur, held in Leela's kitchen. Learn authentic Indian cooking techniques as you prepare a home-cooked meal over a traditional wood-fired stove. You will cook a few regional specialties such as wheat chapati (flatbread) or bajra roti (millet bread), masala bhindi (okra), and dal tadka (tempered lentil curry), using local ingredients. After the cooking class, sit down with Leela, Ashok, and their family to enjoy the meal you helped prepare while discovering the rich culinary traditions, warm hospitality, and everyday life of rural Rajasthan.
