This 4-day Sri Lanka Wildlife & Scenic Safari Journey takes you from the misty hill country of Belihuloya to the wild landscapes of Yala, Bundala, and Udawalawe, ending on the sun-kissed beaches of Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Drive to the scenic hill town of Belihuloya, surrounded by forests, tea plantations, and reservoirs. In the afternoon, embark on a Hill Safari to Baker’s Bend, a lesser-known but spectacular route offering panoramic views, rugged terrain, and encounters with endemic flora and fauna. This historic trail, once explored by British-era hunters and explorers, is rich in colonial history and natural beauty.
Begin your day before dawn with an exhilarating 4WD safari along the Devil’s Staircase, one of Sri Lanka’s most dramatic mountain routes. The trail winds through cloud forests, grasslands, and steep escarpments, offering breathtaking sunrise views and chances to spot wildlife.
After the safari, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant near Bambarakanda Waterfall, Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfall, followed by a short stop to admire this natural marvel. In the afternoon, continue your journey towards the south-east coast, driving to Yala.
Set out early for a morning safari at Yala National Park, renowned for having one of the highest leopard densities in the world. Keep an eye out for elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, spotted deer, and a wide variety of birdlife.
In the afternoon, proceed to Bundala National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a haven for migratory birds. The wetlands, lagoons, and sand dunes provide excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography, with frequent sightings of flamingos, pelicans, and waterfowl.
Early morning, drive to Udawalawe National Park for a half-day safari, famous for its large herds of elephants and open landscapes that allow excellent wildlife viewing. The park is also home to buffalo, crocodiles, deer, and numerous bird species. Following the safari, continue towards Sri Lanka’s southern coast, arriving at Mirissa, Unawatuna, or your preferred beach destination, where you can unwind by the ocean after an adventure-filled journey.
