It is believed that Sigiriya was one of the fortresses or lookout points used by King Ravana during his reign in Lanka. The strategic location and commanding height of the rock made it an ideal place for monitoring surrounding areas and defending the kingdom. Some Ramayana traditions also suggest that Sigiriya was part of the region controlled by Ravana, used for military observation or protection routes during the time Seetha was held in Lanka. Today, while Sigiriya is historically known as the 5th-century rock fortress of King Kashyapa, it is included in the Ramayana Trail as a site connected to Ravana’s era, blending mythology, archaeology, and natural beauty.
